New Tenant Demonstrates Understanding of Lease Agreement
The Problem
New tenants can sometimes misremember the guidelines of how a landlord operates his or her rental property. Understanding the importance of topics, such as when rent is due or who is responsible for maintaining the grass, can get overlooked.
The Solution
In order to enhance a tenant’s comprehension of the property rules, I created an immersive scenario-based eLearning experience. This interactive module aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the lease agreement associated with their new rental home.
My Process
Pinpoint Properties (a fictitious client for this concept project) observed that their new tenants frequently failed to retain crucial information from the lease agreement, resulting in unclear communication between tenants and landlords. After a thorough analysis of the lease agreement, I identified five essential topics that tenants needed to understand for a successful tenant-landlord relationship. To address this, I proposed a scenario-based eLearning experience, allowing tenants to navigate real-world situations and learn best practices in managing a rental property.
My goal was to improve the relationship and reduce financial impacts for the tenant by providing a risk-free environment to assess choices and consequences.
Action Map
I collaborated with the landlord to craft the action map below and define the overarching goal for this project. Our chosen metric for assessing progress involved monitoring the landlord's demeanor. To assist tenants, I designed a job aid to reference essential information from the lease agreement.
Text-Based Storyboard
After finalizing and securing approval for the action map, I embarked on the development of a text-based storyboard. To enhance the learning experience, I strategically placed the tenant in scenarios reminiscent of those encountered by the landlord's previous tenants. In the event of an incorrect selection, users would be prompted with a "try again" button, fostering an iterative process until the correct choice was discerned.
Visual Mockups
Once the storyboards were approved, the next step entailed creating a visual mockup for the module using Adobe XD. The style guide below features the characters, colors and fonts that were selected for the learning experience. Maintaining visual consistency with characters and colors throughout the experience ensured a unified and polished product. Following the development of the visual mockup, I transitioned to Articulate Storyline 360 to bring the entire interactive experience to life.
